Avocados Bring the Green
to Restaurants Around the US

Across the country, restaurants are embracing the national avocado craze, fueling the creation of innovative dishes made with fresh avocados. Guacamole and avocado slices are bringing new life to sandwiches, salads, entrees, and breakfast fare in restaurants across the globe. Along with their one-of-a-kind flavor, the addition of avocados to a menu has been shown to bring in more customers, increase the average check size, and improve the positive perception of the entire menu.

A new study from Avocados From Mexico, to determine how much more consumers are willing to pay for fresh avocados and avocado products, found that the popular green fruit could help restaurants earn more green. The study, which included more than 3,000 consumers, found that an avocado add-on provided a boost of up to $2.00 in sales prices across all restaurant segments. Not only were customers willing to pay more for the addition of avocado to sandwiches, salads, and other entrees, but two-thirds of consumers (67%) report that restaurants offering an avocado add-on would improve their menu item quality perceptions – attributing this to the trademark taste and health characteristics of avocados.
